Keep It Locked In

It’s already the last week of the regular season in the NFL and their are a few games that mean something going into Sunday.

Washington plays Dallas on Sunday where Dallas is sure to be resting their stars. Washington is playing red hot right now anyway, and I look for a big day from Santana Moss and company as they beat the Cowboys and steamroll their way into the playoffs.

This leaves out New Orleans who plays Chicago because they need both Washington and Minnesota to lose, and they need a win against, DA Bears. Minnesota takes on Denver Sunday and though AP will have a field day, its going to be one week late, because Washington will beat Dallas and lock up the final spot in the NFC.

The AFC looks like this, Titans win vs Indy and their in. It really doesn’t matter what the Browns do, so they dont have to really win on Sunday against the 49ers. The Titans have to go up to the RCA Dome and beat the Colts who will be playing their starters for atleast a quarter, and they will have back Marvin Harrison. The Titans are very fired up and they know how it feels, from last year to miss the playoffs because of a loss on the last game of the season. I look for the Titans to get the job done in Indy on Sunday Night.

San Diego will beat Oakland and lock up the 3 seed and that means Pittsburgh will grab the 4.

So if im right, Next week we should see the Titans make the trip to play the Chargers and the Steelers hosting the Jaguars. That would mean 3 AFC South teams got in the playoffs, but you never know the Browns could sneak in their if the Titans Choke. It all comes down to the final Sunday, and theirs nothing better.

Ty Conklin shut the door all night on the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Sabres 2 to 0.

This is the first of the home and home between these two teams, ofcourse, the big game coming New Years day in the Winter Classic, in Orchard Park Ny, at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The Pens got goals from Malkin and Armstrong and ofcourse Crosby assisted on both to lead the Pens to the victory. The Sabres meanwhile, looked tired and out of it. This was a back to back game and maybe their thinking ahead to the big game in Western NY. Im sure Sabres fans are hoping they bring a better came in front of their home crowd come the New Year.

NBC will have the game for you on at 1pm Est, make sure you tune in, because it should be an exciting game.

Ryan Miller faced 43 shots and saved 42 of them. The Sabres scored a late goal in the third and won over the Islanders 2 to 1.

The Sabres lost two of their best players in the game in Tim Connolly and Derek Roy, but still fought through it and got the big win. Max Afinogenov scored the game winner with under 3 minutes left.

Mighty Max is starting to heat up and this is a great sign for Buffalo. Ryan Miller was unreal the whole game and he continues to be one of the best goalies in the game today.

Poinnsettia Bowl- Utah Vs Navy on December 20th

Utah will win the game because they've faced tougher tests playing out west. They beat up UCLA and they beat Louisville in lousiville. They also almost beat BYU but lost by a Td. Navy can run the Football but I look for Utah to beat up the Midshipmen.

New Orleans Bowl-Florida Atlantic Vs Memphis on December 21st

I like Florida Atlantic in this ball game because Memphis really hasn't wowed me at all this year. When they did win they barely won, and I think Florida Atlantic can put points up on the Memphis Defense.

PapaJohns.com Bowl-Cincinnati Vs Southern Miss on December 22nd

I like Cincinnati, this team has had its moments this year and I really look for them to come out hard and in a physical game, beat up Southern Miss.

New Mexico Bowl-Nevada Vs New Mexico on December 22nd

I like Nex Mexico to win this game based on how they've faired this year. They beat Air force and came within 7 points of BYU. This team is a tough team and I know a lot of people like Nevada but im sticking with the Lobos.

Las Vegas Bowl-Ucla Vs BYU on December 22nd

I like BYU here. I know a lot of people like UCLA and how they play in the Pac 10 but BYU has played some tough teams as well. They seem to always be in a Bowl game every year and putting up points. I think BYU can play with the Bruins and beat them. UCLA beat them early in the year by 10 but Since then BYU has been playing better and they could have won that game and they didn't even play their best. Look out UCLA.

Hawaii Bowl-Boise St Vs East Carolina on December 23rd

Boise St can put points on the board in a hurry, but East Carolina has played very physical defense all year. I like Boise St though because they are a good team and remember how to win in big games such as this one. If you remember last year they knew how to win in a big game just fine as they won on a 2pt conversian against the Mighty Sooners.

Motor City Bowl-Central Michigan Vs Purdue on December 26th

This is going to be a fun game to watch. I watched the last time these two teams played and Purdue put a lot of points on the board and beat them up pretty bad. Central Michigan has been on a roll and this is basically a home game for them. I dont think that will help anyway, Purdue will steamroll them again.

Holiday Bowl-Arizona St Vs Texas on December 27th

Arizona St will beat Texas. All year Texas was over rated and everyone thought they were so good. Well they weren't, and now they play the Sundevils. I love Arizona St, and how they play the game and I look for them to make a big statement in this game.

Texas Bowl-TCU Vs Houston on December 28th

I dont like either of these teams because their both so hot and cold. TCU was suppose to be really good this year and maybe even in the top ten. They played subpar and they meet a Houston team that is usually high flying. I'll take Houston because I know they can score points and I love their Runing back. I dont like their Defense so look for some points to be put up in this one.

Champ Sports Bowl-Michigan St Vs Boston College on December 28th

Im very excited to watch my buddy Jehuu Caulcrick get his first shot and last at a bowl game. It will be fun to watch. Unfortunatly, State takes on Boston College, a team that was once on top of the Nation. I dont see how State can win. They will have to run the ball and make some plays but Matt Ryan and Bc is just too good. I like BC, sorry Jehuu!

Emerald Bowl-Maryland Vs Oregon St on December 28th

I like Oregon St in this one as they started playing much better football down the stretch. I never thought Maryland was that good this year and I really think the Beavers are going to blow them out.

Meineke Car Care Bowl-Wake Forest Vs Connecticut on December 29th

How can you not like Connecticut this year? What a great season they have put on. I'm not going to pick against them so I like Connecticut. This game should be tough and physical.

Liberty Bowl-Central Florida Vs Mississippi St on December 29th

Central Florida will knock Miss St around and I like Central Florida and the Best Running Back in the Country. Miss St had a great season and my hats off to them but still Central Florida will be able to move the ball and score some points.

Alamo Bowl-Penn St Vs Texas A&M on December 29th

This should be a very good game. I like how hard Penn St plays and this is a good chance for them to show the country that the Big 10 is better then the Big 12. Look for Penn St to get the job done against the Agies.

Independence Bowl-Colorado Vs Alabama on Decemeber 30th

I look for Alabama to beat up the Buffalo's in this game. I like the way bama plays and they play in the SEC, so that right there gives them the edge. Look for a blow out in this one.

Armed Forces Bowl-Air Force Vs California on December 31st

This game is very interesting. Air Force has played very well this season along with Cal. They both have balanced offenses and I look for Cal to win this game. They have played better teams this year and are use to bigger games.

Humanitarian Bowl-Fresno St Vs Georgia Tech on December 31st

I like Tech in this game. Both these teams had average years in my eyes and I look for Tech to beat up Fresno. This could be one of the worst games out there in my eyes.

Sun Bowl-Oregon Vs South Florida on December 31st

This could be one of the best bowl games of the year. I love both these teams and the way they play football. Oregon is without Dixon but they still have a great runing game and can play with anyone. South Florida is led by a hard hitting defense and I look for South Florida to pull the upset and win this game.

Music City Bowl-Kentucky Vs Florida St on December 31st

Im sorry, how is Florida St in a Bowl game? They looked horriable all year long. Kentucky led by Woodson will blow this team out. Bowden better be ready because he is going to get a beat down in this one.

Chick-Fil-A Bowl-Auburn Vs Clemson on December 31st

This should be a very nice game to watch. Two hard hitting teams that run the football and play defense. I like Auburn in this one because they seemed to play tough in big games and I look for them to win this game.

Insight Bowl-Indiana Vs Oklahoma St on December 31st

Indiana had a great year but I dont really think this game will be close. Oklahoma St had a great year and they can run and pass the football. Look for a lot of points in this one but I really like St to win by double digits.

Outback Bowl-Wisconsin Vs Tennessee on Jan 1st

The Vols really picked it up at the end of the season and played very well. PJ Hill is a great back but I look for the Vols to beat up the Badgers. Score this one for the SEC!

Cotton Bowl-Missouri Vs Arkansas on Jan 1st

This could be the best bowl game out there. I love the match up. You have a great runing game with Mcfadden and then Daniels throwing the ball for the Tigers. I like Missouri in the upset if you can call it that. I think they are a great team and I think they can play with the SEC and get a big win for the Big 12.

Gator Bowl-Texas Tech Vs Virgina on Jan 1st

This game should be a good one. You got Offense vs Defense here. I like Virgina to win the ball game because they can stop the Offense of the Red Raiders. This is a tough game to call though.

Capital One Bowl-Michigan Vs Florida on Jan 1st

I like Tebow, how can you not like this kid and how many Tds hes put up. I love Hart from Michigan but I dont think Michigan has no where near enough to hang with the Gators. SEC big win in a cake walk.

Rose Bowl-USC Vs Illinois on Jan 1st

You have to hand it to Illinois for their great season but they now have to play a very upset USC team. USC should be in the big game the way they recruit and are coached. I look for them to take it out on Illinois and the Pac 10 to get a big win over the Big 10.

Sugar Bowl-Hawaii Vs Georgia on Jan 1st

Finally Hawaii has gotten some credit. Can they put some points up agains the Dawgs? I really dont know how this game will go so my gut tells me to take the Dawgs. Strong Defense and Defense wins championships.

Fiesta Bowl-Oklahoma Vs West Virgina on Jan 2nd

Oklahoma feels they should be in the title game and they are one of the best teams in the country. I dont think West Virgina can play with the Sooners despite their high powered offense. Sooners should dominate this one.

Orange Bowl- Virgina Tech Vs Kansas on Jan 3rd

Virginia Tech has a great defense but I really like Kansas. I have followed them all year and how can you not like how they play football. What a season and it ends in a big win for the Jayhawks.

International Bowl-Rutgers Vs Ball St on Jan 5th

Both teams are going to put up a lot of points in this game and I really do like Ball St and their QB. Ray Rice will have a big game but I bet Ball St will win this game in a shootout.

Gmac Bowl-Bowling Green Vs Tulsa on Jan 6th

Tulsa will be able to handle Bowling Green. Tulsa had a great season and they will be able to score some points on this team and look for another shootout but I like Tulsa.

BCS Championship Game-Ohio St Vs LSU on Jan 7th

Ohio St had a great year and they are a good football team. But from day one, ive thought LSU was the best team in the Country. I still think they are and I think they will beat up Ohio St and win the Championship. Look out for Dorsey, hes a big time player.

Happy Holidays and Enjoy all the Bowl games.

In this segment we will evaluate coaches for prominent coaching positions in sports.

Let's look at the Atlanta Flacons head coaching position. Bobby Petrino bailed on this team, not soon enough to prevent it from tainting his credibility for the rest of his career. I think the Falcons are a hurting team, but the right motivator and leader can turn it around like Dick Jauron in Buffalo, who has done a lot with the limited talented players on his squad.

College coaches are unproven and highly unpredictable and there is only one real successful coach to make the transition and that is Jimmy Johnson. Butch Davis had minor success in Cleveland, but was canned after not leading the Browns to more playoff appearances.

Atlanta needs to look at coordinators and one of the best is Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys, he has made that Dallas Cowboys offense a juggernaut. He has had questionable play from Tony Romo, but he has made that team an offensive tour de force. I know your thinking Petrino was an offensive coach as well, but Petrino relied heavily on great players to succeed and needed Michael Vick for him to be even remotely successful. When Vick went down, so did Petrino.

Garrett, will provide creativity to a struggling offense and find the right Quarterback for his team. He turned Romo around and made him into a Pro bowl caliber Quarterback. It can be debatable how much of an impact he has, but he has turned him into a play maker on offense. Something that wasn't seen before he got there.

The Falcons will be building through the draft, so they will probably draft a quarterback or go after someone like Derek Anderson. But, I expect them with Garrett to get the guy that will play the best in his offense and their defense is not terrible they just need more play makers. I think Garrett could bring winning and stability to a unstable position in Atlanta.

Most of this talk is cheap until after the playoffs, but we will see how Arthur Blank handles the situation this time around. Hopefully, he will be more successful then last time and learn his lesson about hiring college coaches.
